Echo 7 April

With the end of the winter season of talks the WPCA held their Fitting Out Supper at the The Avenue Restaurant at Weymouth College last week. Forty members enjoyed an excellent meal in a great venue and new Club President, Tess Reid, gave a short speech wishing everyone good sailing for the coming season.

Also last week the Club held their Annual Boat Jumble when Castle Cove Sailing Club was packed with sellers and buyers looking for that essential item for their boats. The bar was open and many local sailors came in for a beer and a browse round the tables. There was no charge for tables or buyers and Michael Gregory, who organised the evening, made a collection for the RNLI who also had a table selling RNLI goods.

Next week the sailing starts and on Wednesday the first of the day sails will be held when boats will sail in company in local waters. Depending on the weather there may be a stop for lunch. At the end of the week nine boats are booked for a cruise to the Solent staying in East Cowes Marina. Chris Bell, owner of a Naiad 400, La Sorciere, is the Club’s new cruising officer and he should be contacted for further information on these cruises.

Meanwhile ashore meetings continue at Castle Cove Sailing Club on Tuesday evenings when everyone is welcome to come along for a beer and a chat.
