Echo 1 March

WPCA Members and other local sailors were treated to another excellent talk on Tuesday when Mark Ashley-Miller visited the Club to give a presentation on his Harbour Master Sailing Challenge. Mark is making a slow navigation of the British Isles in his Nauticat 331 attempting to visit every harbour with a Harbour Master. He started his venture in March 2019 and has visited 250 harbours and met 210 Harbour Masters around the British Isles. This year’s challenge will take him to the Channel Islands and on to a circumnavigation of Ireland. During his travels he is raising money for The Seafarers’ Charity and members were encouraged to make donations through his website Next week, the last of this year’s talks, will be given by Penny Tranter, a BBC Met Office forecaster from 1992 to 2008. She will tell members about weather conditions to watch out for when sailing, including factors affecting the reliability of online forecasts, understanding cloud formations and sea state, GRIB and other interesting and useful weather information. There is no charge for the talk but donations are invited for Penny’s chosen charity Endometriosis UK. As always the talk, at Castle Cove Sailing Club, will start at 8.00 p.m. and all local sailors are welcome to attend.
