Dorset Echo 25 January

Castle Cove Sailing Club’s clubroom has been full for the last couple of Tuesday evening talks. Last week Peter Landsdown from the Mary Rose Trust gave a fascinating and informative talk on the history of the Mary Rose with some insights into life at sea during her commission. He also talked about the sinking and how the wreck was discovered and the museum developed.

This week Diana and Michael gave a presentation on their cruising last summer when they took their boat Snowgoose around the Scottish Isles and then down the east coast to the Caledonian Canal before sailing south to Milford Haven, their base for the winter. During their talk they went through the highs and lows of sailing around Scotland with the constantly changing weather. They described the amazing places they visited and the abundance of wildlife. They were accompanied by friends at different times and were grateful for help through the Caledonian Canal. Their next adventure will be sailing around Ireland this summer.

Next week John Harvey, well known locally for his time with the Weymouth Lifeboat and as Captain of HMS Osprey will be talking to the Club about serving on board the Royal Yacht Britannia. As usual the talk will start at 8.00 p.m. and local sailors are welcome to attend.
