Dorset Echo 15 March 2022

This should be in Friday's paper - please support your local paper and buy a copy

The Clubhouse was packed last Tuesday for the penultimate WPCA winter talk when Rikk Butler came along to tell members about the grounding of the Napoli in Lyme Bay 15 years ago and the aftermath of the event. Rikk was an officer in the Merchant Navy for many years and has an extensive knowledge of large commercial ships and he was serving in the local Police Force when the Napoli came into our waters. It was a fascinating and informative talk with lots of questions being asked afterwards.

Next Tuesday the Club has been fortunate in securing Charlie Wheeler from Abbotsbury Swannery who will be giving a talk on a year in the life of the Swannery. Illustrated with stunning photographs the talk will cover the history of the Swannery and the Chesil and Fleet Nature Reserve and is sure to be very popular. The talk at Castle Cove Sailing Club will start at 8.00 p.m. and is open to all local sailors.

Thinking ahead the Club Cruising Officer, Chris Reid, has booked berths in Yarmouth for the first cruise of the season in April and members are encouraged to contact him if they would like to take part.
